Common adenostyles (Adenostyles alliariae) belongs to the family Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the Alps. This herb grows in subalpine grasslands or on slopes and can reach 60-150 cm in height. The basal leaves are large and reniform with toothed edges. The corymbs are borne on the flowering stalks and produce dull magenta flowers from July to September. The plant contains an alkaloid and is used as a herbal medicine for lung disease.
