ネパールからインド、パキスタン、ビルマ、マレーシアに分布しています。高さは1〜3メートルになります。葉は広い披針形で先端が尖り、対生します。8月から11月ごろ、咽に紫色のある白色の花を咲かせます。葉は咳や風邪、ぜんそくなどの治療薬として非常に有効です。パキスタンではパンジャブ州の州花になっています。別名で「ユスティキア・アダトダ」とも呼ばれます。 
キツネノマゴ科アダトダ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Adhatoda vasica (syn. Justicia adhatoda)。英名は Malabar nut。 
Malabar nut (Justicia adhatoda) belongs to the Acanthaceae (the Ruellia family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Nepal, India, Pakistan, Burma and Malasia. This shrub can reach 1-3 m in height. The leaves are broad lanceolate with acute tips and arranged in opposite. The white flowers with purple streaks in the throat bloom in August to November. The leaves are very efficacious as a remedy for coughs, cold and asthma. It is the provincial flower of the Punjab in Pakistan.
