The Wild onion (Allium canadense var. canadense) belongs to the Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to eastern North America; from Texas to Florida to New Brunswick to Montana. This herb grows in meadows, and it can reach 15-45 cm in height. The leaves are narrow linear, fleshy and 15-30 cm long. They, and all other parts of the plant, have the characteristic onion odor. The white or pink and often lined flowers bloom in the terminal umbels from April and May. The most flowers have been replaced by bulblets. The bulblets soon fall to the groung and reproduce the mother plant.
