地中海沿岸のヨーロッパ南西部と北アフリカに分布しています。わが国へは明治時代のはじめに渡来しました。高さは20〜45センチほどになります。5月から6月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして散形花序をつけ、黄色い花を咲かせます。和名では「きばなのぎょうじゃにんにく(黄花の行者大蒜)」と呼ばれます。 
ユリ科ネギ属の多年草で、学名は Allium moly。英名は Golden garlic。 
The Golden garlic (Allium moly) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in southwestern Europe and North Africa along the Mediterranean coast. It was introduced to Japan at the beginning of the Meiji period (about 150 years ago). It grows to a height of 20 to 45 cm and produces yellow flowers in umbels from May to June. It is called "黄花の行者大蒜" (Kibana-no-gyoja-ninnik) in Japanese.
