カナダ南部のニューファウンドランドからブリティッシュコロンビア州、それにアメリカ北部のニュージャージー州からミシガン州、サウスダコタ州にかけて分布しています。山地に生え、高さは３メートルほどになります。６月ごろ、散房花序をだし、淡いクリーム色を帯びた白い花を咲かせます。果実は、７月から９月ごろに赤く熟して、食用となります。

スイカズラ科ガマズミ属の落葉低木で、学名は Viburnum trilobum。英名は American cranberry。

American cranberry (Viburnum trilobum) belongs to the Caprifoliaceae (the Honeysuckle family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native to southern Canada; from Newfoundland west to British Columbia and the northen United States, from New Jersey west to Michigan and South Dakota. This tree grows in mountains, and can reach about 3 m in height. The corymbs are borne, and the pale cream tinged white flowers bloom in June. The fruits are edible and ripen red from July to September.
