オーストラリアゴムのき (オーストラリアゴムの木)

オーストラリアの東部が原産です。海岸沿いの乾燥した雨林あるいは川沿いの低木帯に生え、高さは２０〜５０メートルになります。幹は巨大で、大きく広がる枝を支えます。葉は卵状楕円形または長楕円形で、互生します。また革質で、表面は光沢のある濃緑色、裏面は褐色です。果実は「いちじく」に似たかたちで、オレンジ色から紫色に熟します。これは甘くてアボリジニの人たちの食用とされてきました。 |

クワ科イチジク属の常緑高木で、学名は Ficus macrophylla。英名は Moreton bay fig。 |

Moreton bay fig (Ficus macrophylla) belongs to Moraceae (the Mulberry family). It is a tall evergreen tree that is native to eastern Australia. This tree grows in coastal arid rainforests and mallees along the stream, and can reach 20-50 m in height. Stems are enormous and hold spreading branches. Leaves are ovate-elliptic to oblong, alternate, leathery and glossy dark green with borwn reverce side. Fruits are fig-like achenes and ripen orange to purple. Aborigines have been used these sweet fruits for foods. |
