Avonia papyracea ssp. namaensis belongs to the family Portulaceae (the Purslane family). It is a perennial herb that is native to southern Namibia through the northern Cape Province of South Africa. This herb grows in bare habitats and it can reach 5-10 cm in height. The stems are covered with paper scales. The leaves are minute, green, each protected and hidden by very closely imbricated and pure white, papery stipule. The flowers are very small whitish-green and solitary, and they last less than an hour.
