It grows in forests in montane to subalpine zones and is 20 to 30 cm tall. It has 5 to 6 elliptic leaves with short pointed tips that grow in whorls. It is similar to "Kuruma-mugura", but has slightly broader leaves and stinging hairs on the stem and the underside veins of the leaves. From May to July, it produces cymose inflorescences at the tips of stems and leaf axils and produces small white flowers. The corolla has four lobes at the tip.
