Texas prickly pear (Opuntia lindheimeri) Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a prickly pear that is distributed to western United States; Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and northern Mexico. This herb grows in screes or rocky places on calcareous soils, and can reach about 1 m in height. The stem segments are flat round or elliptic, about 25 cm across. The acute spines are borne in patches of stem segments. The pale greenish-yellow to yellow flowers bloom from May to June. The fruits are fleshy berries, ripen in purple and edible.
