Blind prickly pear (Opuntia rufida) belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is a prickly pear that is native to south-western United States and northern Mexico. This pear grows in desert, form wide-spreading clumps, and can reach about 150 cm in height. The stem segments are flat ovate to round, to 20 cm long and less than 2.5 cm thick. The areoles are resembling reddish-brown hairy tufts. The yellow to orange-red flowers bloom in spring. The fruits are fleshy berries with very short spines, yellow-green ripening to red.
