The Woody-root oxalis (Oxalis perennans) belongs to Oxalidaceae (the Wood sorrel family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Australia and New Zealand. It grows on roadsides and grasslands, and is about 25 cm tall. The entire plant is covered with fine hairs and the main root is enlarged. The leaves are trifoliate, and the leaflets are wedge-shaped to obcordate. 1 to 6 yellow flowers bloom at the top of the stem from May to December. The fruit is a thin, cylindrical capsule that stands erect. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin "per" (through) + "annus" (year).
