This tree was introduced into Japan in ancient days, and was cultivated in Nara Era (1300 years ago). It can reach 6-10 m in heigt, the leaves are broad oblanceolate to narrow obovate and alternate. The panicles are borne on terminal branches in November to January, and bloom frangrant white flowers. The fruits are pomes and ripen yellowish orange in May to June.
