わが国の本州から四国・九州それに朝鮮半島や中国東部に分布しています。山野の林内に生え、高さは50〜150センチになります。葉は奇数羽状複葉で互生し、小葉は長卵形で2〜3対あります。8月から9月ごろ、茎頂と葉腋から総状花序をだし、淡いピンク色の蝶形花を咲かせます。果実は節果で、2個の小節果があります。名前は花が「ふじ(藤)」に、葉がマメ科の「かんぞう(甘草)」に似ていることから。 
マメ科ヌスビトハギ属の多年草で、学名は Desmodium oldhamii。英名はありません。 
"Fuji-kanzo" (Desmodium oldhamii) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu of Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula and eastern China. This herb grows in woodlands and can reach 50-150 cm in height. The leaves are odd-pinnate compound with 2-3 pairs of long-ovate leaflets. The racemes are borne on the stem apices and axils, bloom pale pink papilionaceous flowers from August to September. The fruits are loments with two segments.
