わが国の固有種で、本州の中部地方から東北地方南部に分布しています。「えぞのこざくら」の変種です。亜高山帯から高山帯の雪田や湿った草地に生え、高さは5〜15センチになります。葉は倒卵形で鋸歯があり、根生します。また葉の縁は表側に反ります。7月から8月ごろ、花茎の先に紅紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠の裂片の先はさらに2裂します。 
サクラソウ科サクラソウ属の多年草で、学名は Primula cuneifolia var. hakusanensis。英名はありません。 
"Hakusan-kozakura" (Primula cuneifolia var. hakusanensis) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of Japan, and distributed from Chubu district north to southern Tohoku district of Honshu. It is a variety of "Ezono-kozakura". This herb grows in sub-alpine to alpine snow patches and wet grasslands, and it can reach 5-15 cm in height. The leaves are obovate, serrate and basal. They are reflexed upper side. The magenta flowers bloom atop of flowering stalks from July to August. The segments of corolla are dissected into 2 lobes.
