The Rue (Ruta graveolens) belongs to Rutaceae (the Citrus family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to southern Europe. It was introduced into Japan in the middle days of Edo Era (about 260 years ago). This shrub can reach about 60 cm in height and bloom small yellow flowers from May to June. It was used as an amulet, analeptic remedy or insect repellent in former days. Even now, the leaves are used for herbal tea or condiment. The plant contains rutin and has an effect of setting up blood capillary.
