"Hina-zakura" (Primula nipponica) belongs to the Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Tohoku district of Honshu. This herb grows in sub-alpine to alpine snow patches or wet grasslands, and it can reach 10-15 cm in height. The leaves are ovate-round, basal, with 5-9 serrate margins at upper-half of leaf blades. The slender flowering stalks are borne and bloom 2-10, white with yellow center flowers from June to August. The corolla is about 1 cm across.
