The Pink-head knotweed (Polygonum capitatum) belongs to Polygonaceae (the Knotweed family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the northern India; around the Himalaya. It was introduced into Japan in the middle days of Meiji Era (about 120 year ago). The stems crawl on the ground and the plant is used for ground cover. The pale rose pink flowers bloom in the globe clusters almost all year long. The leaves have blackish specks and turn red in fall.
