ひよくそう (比翼草)

わが国の北海道から本州、四国に分布しています。山地の日当たりの良い林縁や草原に生え、高さは３０〜６０センチになります。葉は卵形で、不揃いの鋸歯があり対生します。全体が軟毛に被われています。６月から７月ごろ、葉腋から長い対になった花序をだし、淡い紫色の花を咲かせます。和名は、唐代の詩人、白居易の「長恨歌」の一節「天に在りては願わくは比翼の鳥と作（な）り、地に在りては願わくは連理の枝と為らんと」に因みます。 |

ゴマノハグサ科クワガタソウ属の多年草で、学名は Veronica melissaefolia。英名はありません。 |

"Hiyoku-so" (Veronica melissaefolia) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Hokkaido to Honshu and Shikoku in Japan. It grows in sunny forest margins and grasslands in mountainous areas and is 30-60 cm tall. The leaves are ovate, irregularly serrated, and grow in pairs. From June to July, long paired inflorescences emerge from the leaf axils and produce pale purple flowers. The Japanese name is derived from a line in the "長恨歌" (Chang Hen Ge) by the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi: "在天願作比翼鳥在地願為連理枝" (zai tian yuan zuo bi yi niao, zai di yuan wei lian li zhi), (I would like to be a bird in the sky and a branch on earth). |
