"Hosoba-tsume-kusa" (Minuartia verna var. japonica) belongs to the Caryophyllaceae (the Carnation family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan and distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido. This herb grows in alpine screes or rocky places, and can reach 2-8 cm in height. The stems are much branched, the leaves are linear and three-veined. It blooms small white flowers, about 5 mm across, atop of stems from July to August. The petals and sepals are about the same length. It is also called "Kobano-tsume-kusa".
