フィリピンからニューギニア、オーストラリア北部にかけて分布しています。湿った岸壁などに着生します。「こちょうらん(胡蝶蘭)」の原種のひとつで、白花の交配母種として使われます。葉は長楕円形で互生します。花茎を弓状に伸ばして、芳香のある白い花を咲かせます。 
ラン科ファレノプシス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Phalaenopsis amabilis。英名は Moon orchid。 
The Moon orchid (Phalaenopsis amabilis) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from the Philippines to New Guinea and northern Australia. It grows on wet shores. It is one of the original species of Phalaenopsis and is used as a hybrid mother plant for white-flowered orchids. The leaves are oblong-elliptic and alternate. The scape grows in an arching shape and produces fragrant white flowers.
