アメリカの東部からカナダの南部に分布しています。湿った林内に生え、高さは15〜25センチになります。茎は匍匐して広がり、広卵形の葉は綿毛に被われます。春に花茎を伸ばし、不規則な散形花序に、トランペット形の青紫色の花を咲かせます。花色には白色やピンク色、紫色もあります。園芸上は「つるはなしのぶ(蔓花忍)」と呼ばれます。 
ハナシノブ科フロックス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Phlox stolonifera。英名は Creeping phlox。 
The creeping phlox (Phlox stolonifera) belongs to Polemoniaceae (the Phlox family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the eastern United States and southern Canada. This herb grows in waste forests and can reach 15-25 cm in height. The stem is creeping and the leaves are broad ovate with wooly hairs. The flowering stalks are borne and bloom trumpet-shaped bluish purple flowers. The flower colors include white, pink, and purple.
