Yellow bird of paradise (Caesalpinia gilliesii) belongs to the Caesalpiniaceae family. It is a semi-evergreen, small tree that is native to tropical America, mainly Argentina and Uruguay. This tree can reach 1.5-3 m in height. The leaves are bipinnate with 6-10 pairs of leaflets. The flowers are yellow with bright red stamens, and bloom at the tips of branches from spring to early summer and then sporadically-occurring until fall. They are very fragrant and showy, open in late afternoon and last one day. The seeds and seed pods are very poisonous.
