アメリカの東部から南西部それにメキシコ、西インド諸島に分布しています。「カリカルパ・アメリカーナ」の一品種で、果実が白いのが特徴です。高さは１．８〜２．４メートルほどになります。春に葉腋から集散花序をだし、小さな藤色の花を咲かせます。

クマツヅラ科ムラサキシキブ属の落葉低木で、学名は Callicarpa americana f. lactea。英名は American beautyberry。

The American beautyberry (Callicarpa americana f. lactea) belongs to Verbenaceae (the Verbena family). It is a small deciduous tree that is native from the eastern to southwestern United States, Mexico and the West Indies. It is one species of Callicarpa americana and defined by white fruits. This tree can reach 1.8-2.4 m in height. The cymes are borne in the axiles and bloom small lilac flowers in spring.
