アメリカの南西部、オクラホマ州からアリゾナ州にかけて分布しています。荒れ地などに生え、蔓性でほかの木などによじ登ります。葉は卵状披針形で、３〜５裂します。７月から９月ごろ、クリーム色の花を咲かせます。花後に種子ができますが、絹質の８〜１０センチもある長い毛が特徴です。

キンポウゲ科センニンソウ属の落葉蔓性木本で、学名は Clematis drummondii。英名は Texas virgin's bower、Old-man's beard。

The Texas virgin's bower (Clematis drummondii) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a deciduous creeper that is found in the southwestern United States from Oklahoma to Arizona. It grows in rough terrain and other places, and is a vine that climbs up other trees. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate with three to five lobes. It produces cream-colored flowers from July to September. Seeds are produced after the flowers, and are characterized by long silky hairs 8 to 10 cm long.
