コノフィツム属は南アフリカが原産です。「まつばぎく（松葉菊）」の近縁ですが、多肉質の葉が２個合着してひと塊になっています。大きさは数センチほどで、かたちも丸形や鞍形それに足袋形などがあります。夏から秋にかけて、まず脱皮と分球が起こり、翌年の夏に休眠するまで成長を続けます。花期も長く、花色もさまざまです。 |

ツルナ科コノフィツム属の常緑多年草で、学名は Conophytum sp. (属の総称)。英名はありません。 |

The genus Conophytum is native to South Africa. It is closely related to the "Fig marigold", but has two fleshy leaves that are joined together to form a single clump. It is several centimeters in diameter and can be round, saddle-shaped, or tabi socks-shaped. It first molts and divides from summer to fall, and continues to grow until it goes dormant the following summer. It has a long flowering season and its flowers come in a variety of colors. |
