南アメリカの西部が原産だと考えられています。「トマト」の近縁種で、高さは５０〜１００センチほどになります。７月から９月ごろに花を咲かせ、小粒の果実は８月から１０月に赤く熟します。果実は薄い果皮と風味のある果肉があり、生食や料理用に使われます。

The currant tomato (Lycopersicon pimpinellifolium) belongs to Solanaceae (the Nightshade family). It is an annual herb that is believed to be native to the western part of South America. It is a closely related species of "tomato" and has a height of about 50-100 cm. The flowers bloom from July to September, and the small fruits ripen red from August to October. The fruit has thin pericarp and flavorful fresh, and is used for raw food and cooking.
