わが国の本州、埼玉県と茨城県に分布していましたが、現在は野生では消滅しています。ため池や河原などの湿地に生え、高さは１０〜３０センチになります。葉は線形で、ロゼット状になります。７月から９月ごろ、花茎を多数だして先端に単独の花序をつけます。「こしがやほしくさ」は、2009年にその再発芽に成功しています。

ホシクサ科ホシクサ属の一年草で、学名は Eriocaulon heleocharioides。英名はありません。

"Koshigaya-hoshi-kusa" (Eriocaulon heleocharioides) belongs to Eriocaulaceae (the Pipewort family). It is an annual herb that was native to Saitama and Ibaraki prefecture in Japan. It ceases to exist in the wild. This herb had grown in marshes; pools or riverbeds and can reach 10-30 cm in height. The leaves are linear and form in rosette. The many flower stalks are borne and bloom solitary clusters from July to September. This herb is succeeded in regermination in 2009.
