わが国の本州、神奈川県以西から近畿地方の太平洋側、四国・九州に分布しています。山地の林内や川岸などに生え、高さは40〜110センチになります。地下茎は横に伸び、広がります。葉は長い葉柄があり、5〜7個に掌状分裂します。9月から10月ごろ、長い花茎をだして、下向きに暗紫色の頭花を咲かせます。花冠は5裂し、裂片は反曲します。別名で、「よしのそう(吉野草)」とか「かんぼくそう(肝木草)」と呼ばれます。
キク科クサヤツデ属の多年草で、学名は Diaspananthus uniflorus。英名はありません。
"Kusa-yatsude" (Diaspananthus uniflorus) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed westward from the Pacific Ocean Side of Kanagawa prefecture to Kinki district of Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. This herb grows in mountain forests or streambanks, and can reach 40-110 cm in height. The plant spreads by transversally extended rhizomes. The leaves are divided into 5-7 partites palmately with long petioles. The long flowering stalks are borne and the dark purple flower heads bloom descending from September to October. The corolla is quintuple-lobate and the lobes are recurving.
