メキシコのイダルゴ州に分布しています。標高１４００〜１５００メートルの台地に生え、高さ７センチほどになります。柔らかい真っ白な棘が密生し、疣腋からも白い毛がでています。春に、濃いピンク色の花を咲かせます。園芸上は「はるぼし（春星）」と呼ばれます。

The Mammillaria humboldtii belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is an evergreen wart cactus that is distributed in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. It grows on plateaus at elevations of 1400 to 1500 m and is about 7 cm tall. It has dense soft, pure white spines and white hairs from the wart axils. It produces dark pink flowers in spring. Horticulturally, it is called "haru-boshi" (spring star) in Japan.
