旧オランダ領アンティルのキュラソー島やボネール島が原産です。明るい緑色の茎があり、サイズは高さ２５センチ、直径は３０センチになります。１１〜１５個の肋があります。棘は黄色がかったものから褐色です。４個の不均一な中棘は強く。長さは７センチほどになります。８〜１７個の縁棘は３〜４．５センチの長さです。花はローズ色で直径は０．７〜１．２センチです。明るい赤色の果実は、ふつうこん棒状と呼ばれ、長さ１．５〜２センチです。

サボテン科メロカクツス属の球状サボテンで、学名は Melocactus macracanthos (syn. Melocactus laui)。英名はありません。

Melocactus macracanthos belongs to Cactaceae (the Cactus family). It is an evergreen barrel cactus that is native to the former Netherland Antilles, Curacao Island and Bonaire Island. This cactus has bright green stems and grows up to a size of up to 25 cm in height and a diameter of up to 30 cm. It has from 11-15 ribs. The thorns are yellowish to brown. The four unequal central spines are strong and up to 7 cm long. The 8-17 radial spines are 3-4.5 cm long. The flowers are rose and have a diameter of 0.7-1.2 cm. The bright red fruit, generally speaking in the form of a club, is 1.5-2 cm long.
