わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道、それにロシア極東地方や北アメリカに分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の針葉樹林などに生え、高さは５〜１５センチになります。葉は根生して長い葉柄があり、３出複葉です。６月から７月ごろ、茎の先に小さな白い花を咲かせます。花弁のようにみえるのは萼片です。 |

キンポウゲ科オウレン属の常緑多年草で、学名は Coptis trifolia。英名は Goldthread。 |

The Goldthread (Coptis trifolia) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido of Japan, as well as Russian Far East and North America. This herb grows in subalpine to alpine coniferous forests and it can reach 5-15 cm in height. The leaves are basal and trifoliate with long petioles. The small white flowers come on the stalks from June to July. They have 5 petaline sepals. |
