わが国の本州、中部地方以北から東北地方に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の岩礫地に生え、高さは20〜40センチになります。「ひめしゃじん(姫沙参)」の変種で、花柱が花冠から突き出るのが特徴です。また萼片は披針形で全縁です。8月から9月ごろ、紫色のベル形の花を咲かせます。 
キキョウ科ツリガネニンジン属の多年草で、学名は Adenophora nikoensis var. stenophylla。英名はありません。 
"Miyama-shajin" (Adenophora nikoensis var. stenophylla) belongs to Campanulaceae (the Bellflower family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Chubu region north to Tohoku region of Honshu in Japan. This herb grows on rocky gravel in the subalpine to alpine zones and can reach 20-40 cm in height. It is a variety of "Hime-shajin" and is characterized by the pillars protruding from the corolla. The calyx is lanceolate and entire. The purple bell-shaped flowers come in August to September.
