わが国の本州、中部地方以北から東北地方に分布しています。「にょいすみれ」の高山型です。亜高山帯から高山帯の湿原や草地などに生え、高さは５〜２０センチになります。茎は地表を這い、葉は円形で表面に微毛があります。６月から８月ごろ、花茎を伸ばして淡紫色を帯びた花を咲かせます。

スミレ科スミレ属の多年草で、学名は Viola verecunda var. fibrillosa。英名はありません。

"Miyama-tsubo-sumire" (Viola verecunda var. fibrillosa) belongs to Violaceae (the Violet family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district to Tohoku district of Honshu in Japan. It is an alpine form of "Japanese violet" (Viola verecunda). This herb grows in sub-alpine to alpine marshes and grasslands, and can reach 5-20 cm in height. The stems crawl on the grounds. The leaves are round and pubescent on the surfaces. The flowering stalks are borne and the pale purple flowers bloom in June through August.
