もくれいし (木茘枝)

わが国の本州南部や四国・九州、沖縄諸島それに台湾に分布しています。 常緑広葉樹林の林内や林縁に生え、高さは２～５メートルになります。樹皮は灰褐色です。葉は卵形から楕円形で対生し、縁は全縁です。２月から４月ごろ、葉腋に集散花序をだし、直径５ミリほどの黄緑色の花を咲かせます。果実は楕円形の蒴果で、冬に熟します。種子は赤橙色で仮種皮はありません。 |

ニシキギ科モクレイシ属の常緑低木で、学名は Microtropis japonica。英名はありません。 |

"Moku-reishi" (Microtropis japonica) belongs to Celastraceae (the Bittersweet family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed to south Honshu, south Kyushu and Okinawa Island in Japan, as well as Taiwan. This tree grows in or on the edge of the evergreen broad-leaved forests, and can reach 2-5 m in height. Bark is graysh-brown. Leaves are ovate to elliptic, opposite and margins entire. From February to April, cymes of small yellow-green flowers about 5 mm wide are seen on the axils. Fruits are elliptic capsules and ripen in winter. Seed is reddish-orange and is not arillate. |
