わが国の本州、岩手県にある早池峰（はやちね）山の特産種です。蛇紋岩の岩礫地に生え、高さは２０〜３０センチになります。根生葉は長楕円形で光沢があり、長い柄があります。８月ごろ、茎の先に円柱形の総状花序をだして、淡紅色の花を咲かせます。花弁はなく、萼片が花のように見えます。

タデ科イブキトラノオ属の多年草で、学名は Bistorta hayachinensis。英名はありません。

|
"Nambu-torano-o" (Bistorta hayachinensis) belongs to Polygonaceae (the Knotweed family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Mount Hayachine in Iwate Prefecture, Honshu in Japan. This herb grows on the serpentine area and can reach 20-30 cm in height. The basal leaves are oblong and grossy with long petioles. It produces a columnar raceme atop of stem and bloom pale rose pink flowers in August. The perianth has 5 divided petaloid sepals.
