においひつじぐさ (匂い未草) [Index] [Back] 北アメリカの東部が原産です。水生植物で、湖や池、緩やかな流れの水路などに生えます。葉は１０〜３０センチの幅があり、表面が光沢のある緑色、裏面が紫色のかかった赤色で、水面に浮遊しています。６月から９月ごろ、直径７．５〜１２．５センチの芳香のある花を咲かせます。花はふつう早朝からお昼まで開いています。写真は、園芸品種の「カロリニアーナ（cv. Caroliniana）」。 スイレン科スイレン属の多年草で、学名は Nymphaea odorata。英名は Fragrant water lily。 The fragrant water lily (Nymphaea odorata) belongs to Nymphaeaceae (the Water lily family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the eastern North America. This herb is aquatic and grows in lakes, ponds and quiet water of ditches. The leaves are 10-30 cm wide, shiny green above, purplish red beneath and float on the water. The fragrant flowers are 7.5-12.5 cm in diameter, and appear from June to September.
