The corpse lily (Rafflesia arnoldii) belongs to Rafflesiaceae (the Rafflesia family). It is a parasitic plant that is native to Sumatra Island and southwestern Borneo Island. This plant grows in rainforests and is an endoparasite of vines in the genus Tetrastigma (Vitaceae). It has no stems, leaves or true roots. The five petaled flower grows up to 1 m in diameter, and looks like rotting meat with corrupt smells. This smell attracts carrion flies, which transport pollen from male to female flowers. The genus and specific epithet are named after the discoverer of Thomas Stanford Raffles and Joseph Arnold.
