アフリカの東部、タンザニアのザンジバル諸島が原産です。形態的にさまざまな品種があります。矮性種から大型種、それに葉色もさまざま。濃緑色の地にクリーム色の斑や赤銅色の地にクリーム色や緑色の斑があるものなど多様です。花茎の先に円錐花序をだし、淡い緑白色の花を咲かせます。花冠の筒部は長く、先端だけが裂けて反転します。花にはココアのような微かな芳香があります。 
リュウゼツラン科チトセラン属の常緑多年草で、学名は Sansevieria kirkii var. pulchra。英名は Star sansevieria。 
The Star sansevieria (Sansevieria kirkii var. pulchra) belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the Zanzibar Archipelago in Tanzania, eastern Africa. There are various morphological varieties, dwarf species to large species and various leaf colors. There are various types such as cream-colored spots on a dark green background and cream-colored or green spots on a bronze-colored ground. The panicles are borne on the tips of the flower stalks and bloom pale greenish white flowers. The corolla has a long tube, and only the tip is torn and inverted. The flowers have a faint scent like cocoa.
