ヨーロッパの南西部に分布しています。低地から山地までの乾燥した砂礫地に生え、高さは50〜100センチになります。葉は線形で、「ローズマリー」に似ています。7月から8月ごろ、黄色い頭花を咲かせます。あまり手のかからないグランドカバーとして、庭園に利用されます。
キク科ワタスギギク属の常緑小低木で、学名は Santolina rosmarinifolia。英名は Holy flax。
The Holy flax (Santolina rosmarinifolia) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is an evergreen subshrub that is native to southwestern Europe. This herb grows in arid screes from lowland to the mountains and can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are linear and resemble to Rosemary. The yellow flower-heads come in July through August. It is used in gardens as a less-intensive groundcover.
