The Japanese sago palm (Cycas revoluta) belongs to the Cycadaceae (the Cycad family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed from south Kyushu, the Okinawa Islands of Japan to south China. This tree can reach 3-5 m in height, and the leaves are pinnate compounds 1-1.5 m long. This tree is dioecism, flowers on teminal stems come from June to August. Fruits are ripen vermillion-red in fall. Stems contain starches, therefore it has been used for foods in times of dearth.
