熱帯アフリカの西部が原産です。蔓性で、高さは7メートル以上に伸びます。葉は長楕円形で、先端が短く尖ります。花は筒状で、白色または淡いピンク色を帯びます。種子には強心配糖体が含まれ、古くから毒矢に用いられてきました。現在では、強心利尿剤「G−ストロファチン」の製造原料となっています。 
キョウチクトウ科ストロファンツス属の常緑蔓性低木で、学名は Strophanthus gratus。英名は Climbing oleander、Cream fruit。 
The Climbing oleander (Strophanthus gratus) belongs to Apocynaceae (the Dogbane family). It is an evergreen woody vine that is native to the western part of tropical Africa. It is vine and can reach over 7 m in height. The leaves are oblong with short, pointed tips. The flowers are tubular and tinged with white or pale pink. Seeds contain cardiac glycosides and have long been used for poison darts. Today, it is the raw material for the production of the cardiotonic diuretic "G-strophatin".
