わが国の本州、東海地方から近畿地方に分布しています。日当たりの良い山地に生え、高さは1〜1.5メートルになります。茎葉は長楕円形で先端は尾状に尖り、羽状に深裂します。9月から11月ごろ、枝先や葉腋に淡紫紅色の頭花を、上向きまたはやや斜め上向きに咲かせます。総苞は筒状で、総苞片は6列で短く、やや反り返ります。
キク科アザミ属の多年草で、学名は Cirsium suzukaense。英名はありません。
"Suzuka-azami" (Cirsium suzukaense) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan, westward from Tokai district to Kinki district of Honshu. This herb grows in sunny mountains and can reach 1-1.5 m in height. The cauline leaves are oblong and pinnatipartite with caudal tips. The pale magenta flower-heads are borne on the terminal branches and axiles from September to November. They are upright or side-upward. The bracts are cylindrica, the phyllaries are arranged in 6 rows and slightly recurved.
