It is a perennial herb that is distributed widely throughout Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China and Southeast Asia. This herb grows in low grasslands and can reach 10-30 cm in height. The leaves are narrow linear, basal and bear the long hairs densely on the edges. The globose cluster are borne at the slender flowering stalks from April to June. The flowers are greenish white or reddish brown and have obvious yellow anthers. The Japanese name is the shape of the inflorescence that looks like "Ke-yari" (fur spear) in the Daimyo procession.
