アメリカの北西部、ワシントン州からオレゴン州に分布しています。森林や草原に生え、高さは30〜60センチになります。葉は長い葉柄があり、狭披針形または線形の裂片に分裂します。花は濃い青紫色で、長くて細い淡青色の距があります。果実は長さ15ミリほどの袋果です。名前は、北アメリカ西部の植物学者、植物ハンターであったトーマス・ナトールに因みます。
キンポウゲ科ヒエンソウ属の多年草で、学名は Delphinium nuttallii。英名は Upland larkspur。
The Upland larkspur (Delphinium nuttallii) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the northwestern United States, from Washington to Oregon. This herb grows in forests and meadow, and it can reach 30-60 cm in height. The leaves are dissected into narrowly lanceolate or linear segments with long petioles. The flowers are deep bluish-purple with long slender light blue spurs. They bloom in May through June. The fruits are follicles about 15 mm long. It is named after Thomas Nuttall, botanist and plant explorer in western North America.
