"Todoshima-genge" (Oxytropis todomoshiriensis) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Moneron Island, 50 kilometers southwest of Sakhalin, Russia. It grows on rocky slopes and rocks on the beach and can reach 15-25 cm in height. The plant has a large tap root and no stems. The leaves are odd-pinnate compound with 7 to 12 pairs of leaflets, and covered with white silky hairs. It blooms from June to July and bears fruits in August. The flowers are magenta to blue papillionaceous flowers that bloom in racemes. Since it was confirmed at Hokkaido University that this species is not the tetraploid that was conventionally said, but the same diploid as "Rebun-so" (Oxytropis megalantha), there is a possibility that both species are the same species.
