メキシコから中央アメリカ、南アメリカ北部に分布しています。茎は直立し、高さは90センチほどになります。葉は緑色か黄色の斑入りで、茎頂に束生してつきます。花は白色で、1対の苞葉のある花序のなかに咲きます。
ツユクサ科ムラサキツユクサ属の多年草で、学名は Tradescantia zanonia(syn. Campelia zanonia)。英名は Mexican flag、Cohitre blanco。
The Mexican flag (Tradescantia zanonia) belongs to Commelinaceae (the Spiderwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Mexico, Central America and northern South America. The stem is erect and can reach about 90 cm in height. The leaves are green or with yellow variegation, and carried at the tip of a stem in whorled. The flowers are white and bloom in the clusters with a pair of bracts.
