わが国の本州、中部地方以北から関東地方、東北地方南部の太平洋側に分布しています。山地の草原や林縁などに生え、高さは60〜150センチになります。葉は3全裂します。8月から10月ごろ、茎頂や葉腋から散房花序をだし、紫色の花を咲かせます。 
キンポウゲ科トリカブト属の多年草で、学名は Aconitum tsukubense。英名はありません。 
"Tsukuba-torikabuto" (Aconitum tsukubense) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Honshu of Japan, northward from Chubu district to the Pacific Ocean Sea Side of Kanto and southern Tohoku district. This herb grows in montane grasslands and forest egdes, and it can reach 60-150 cm in heght. The leaves are tri-dissected. The corymbs are borne atop of stems and axils, and the purple flowers bloom from August to October.
