南アフリカ北東部にあるリンポポ州の固有種です。低い丘の斜面にある混合低木林に生え、高さは７５センチほどになります。主根は亜塊状で、茎はかなり細く、数本から数本の枝をだします。この枝は５〜６角形で、間隔をおいて括れます。棘は稜に沿って約１センチ間隔で１対ずつつき、長さは１センチほどです。葉は最初にでますが、すぐに落葉します。５月から６月ごろ、上部の枝の稜に杯状花序をだします。

トウダイグサ科トウダイグサ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Euphorbia barnardii。英名はありません。

The Euphorbia barnardii belongs to Euphorbiaceae (the Spurge family). It is an evergreen herb that is endemic to Limpopo Province in northeastern South Africa. It grows in mixed shrubland on low hillsides and grows to a height of about 75 cm. The main root is subclumped and the stem is quite thin with several to many branches. These branches are pentagonal to hexagonal and bracketed at intervals. The spines are attached in pairs about 1 cm apart along the ribs and are about 1 cm long. Cyathiums are produced on the upper branch ridges from May to June.
