ヨシュアのき (ヨシュアの木) [Index] [Back] アメリカの南西部、モハーベ砂漠が原産です。カリフォルニア州南部からネバダ州、ユタ州それにアリゾナ州に分布しています。乾燥地帯に生え、成長は遅いですが８メートルほどの高さになります。葉は硬く線形で、４０センチ以上になります。縁には細かい鋸歯があり、先端は細く尖ります。早春に下垂した円錐花序をだし、緑白色の花を咲かせます。果実は食用になります。 リュウゼツラン科イトラン属の常緑小高木で、学名は Yucca brevifolia。英名は Joshua tree。 The Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia) belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is native to Mojave Desert, southern California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona. It grows in arid areas, slow growing and can reach about 8 m in height. The leaves are rigid, linear and up to 40 cm long. They have small toothed edges and end in sharp tips. The greenish-white flowers come in the nodding panicles in early spring.
