わが国の本州、北陸地方から中国地方、それに四国に分布しています。かつては西日本の一部で屋根葺きに使われたササです。葉は長さ20センチ、幅5〜6センチほどになります。また、冬期には葉の周辺が隈取ります。 
イネ科ササ属の常緑ササ類で、学名は Sasa tectoria (syn. Sasa tectorius)。英名はありません。 
"Yanefuki-zasa" (Sasa tectoria) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is an evergreen bamboo that is distributed from Hokuriku region to Chugoku region of Honshu, and Shikoku in Japan. It is a bamboo grass that was once used for roofing in parts of western Japan. The leaves are 20 cm long and 5-6 cm wide. Also, in winter, the leaf-edge turns to white stripe.
